The DTP is real workplace-based learning with hands-on practice enhancing employability of youth in the industry. It aims to strengthen the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) educational institutions’ that are responsive to the demands of the industry by combining in-plant training and in-institute theoretical instructions. This is an initiative to enhance the access, quality and relevance of TVET delivery to evolving industry needs.
The main strategies include market driven training content, participation by private sector and flexible steering.
The Department of Human Resources and the Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute JWPTI, Dekiling and Technical Training Institutes (TTI) in Chumey are the main implementing partners.
Presently both TTIs are providing the following occupational skill training:
- Construction carpentry
- Masonry
- Plumbing
- Wooden furniture making & Upholstery
- Welding & Fabrication
These courses are competency based with duration of 2 years (80 % practical / 20 % theory). The graduates are provided with the National Certificate II (skilled worker) by the Department of Occupational Standards (Ministry of Labour and Human Resources). The training is provided 70% industrials and 30% Institutional base training.
